West Virginia has a strong history of Italian Heritage; by 1910 there were more than 17,000 Italian immigrants in the state. These immigrants quickly showed they had the work ethic, self-sacrificing and frugal living lifestyle to adapt and contribute to the state of West Virginia and overall American way of life. Their many accomplishments and additions to our state is what we celebrate along with all things Italian at this great event!

The event was developed to support Facing Huger Food Bank in Huntington, WV. Their mission is to feed hungry people through the distribution of nutritious food through the pantry and agency network. The overall goal is to see this area become one where no person has to go hungry. The organization is affiliated with Feeding America and currently has 226 agencies throughout the state of West Virginia in 12 different counties while also having agencies in Ohio and Kentucky. In 2016 Facing Hunger Foodbank distributed 5.8 million pounds of foods and goods to individuals in our area. Money raised from the Italian Festival will go to support the Backpack Programming through the Food Bank.

Cabell Huntington Hospital is proud to support this great event and organization that is doing so much to help those in need throughout our community.

“By working together as a community, we can help battle hunger,” said Kevin Fowler, President and CEO of Cabell Huntington Hospital. “Our partnership with the food bank has generated awareness that to eliminate hunger, we all must get involved. We encourage everyone to attend the Italian Festival and enjoy a great day for a great cause.
